Energy Savings -
1.
I have established a test project with Lighting Science Group to test the power savings with LED
lighting. LSG will provide LED parking lot lights at no charge. They will be installed in part of the
parking lot at the Educational Service Facility in Viera. The power usage will be monitored separately
from the same number of standard parking lot lights. Foot candles will be measured and we will be
able to observe lumenesence side by side. If the savings is significant (which we expect it will be), we
will look at replacing all lights in the district. Note, that through energy performance contracts, we can
install these lights with no cost to the district. They will be paid for with a percentage of the savings on
our power bill.
2. I have been evaluating our land fill costs for trash. Our landfill cost is set by the size of the
dumpsters. if we can reduce the amount of waste put in the dumpsters, we can request smaller
dumpsters and reduce our costs. The simplest way to reduce waste volume is to recycle. There is no
cost to the district for removing recyclable material.
3. Bio-Fuel - I am in discussion with Science teachers about the practicality of expanding on some
existing Bio-diesel science labs. Since our future is undisputably dependant on alternative energy, it
makes sense to look at the practicality of starting a bio-fuel career program. My dream would be to
make this program large enough that we could teach students and produce enough fuel to run all our
busses and vehicles. Brevard County School Board has the 10th largest fleet in the state. We
currently run our busses on bio-diesel.

Generating revenue - Cutting is not the only way to solve problems.
1. I want to entertain expanding advertisment opportunities to businesses. Currently businesess can
advertise on sports fields. I believe we should entertain advertising in school,s and even in busses to
generate revenue. Standard moral and ethical advertising policies would apply.

2. Currently investigating the expansion of Project Search. A career training program for
developmentally delayed special diploma students age 18-22 (law requires us to educate through age
22). There are hundreds of students who need career training. The state provides funding for each of
these students if they are enrolled in a high school. Currently most are not enrolled in school. This
could be a great source of revenue for our ESE programs.
